Throughout the past few years I have had the privilage to hunt alongside Ray and behind dogs he has trained. A few months back I asked him to give me a call if he ever came across a solid labrador pup, and he didnt let me down. When I went to check out "Pearl" (4 mo. old) for the first time, we headed out to the training field to see how she would respond to live birds. It was unbelievable to see her instincts kick in and her excitement overpower her. Ray told me that there's never a guarantee, but that this dog had serious potential...was he ever right!
I bought "Pearl" that day and began her basic training and working with the instincts that were brought out by beind in front of birds at a young age.

What I took from my experience with Ray was that he took time to properly train me on how to train my new pup.
I know that I could have found a puppy anywhere, labs are not that difficult to find. But the wisdom I gained from Ray and how he prepares his dogs to leave his kennel are priceless. I brought "Pearl" along for the ride at 7 mo. old to South Dakota just for her to get the experience of being around people and noise. I didnt hunt her with the group and all the dogs, but I got her out and hunted with her on a few corners with just a few other people and was shocked at how well she did! The other guys with me kept asking if I was POSITIVE she was only 7 mo. old because she hunted like it was her second or third season. Now, I am not the greatest trainer ever, but I attribute most of her success at such a young age to how well Ray started her. If you have a lab that you desire to have professionally trained, or are looking to purchase one that has been started,
you have to stop by Ray Brook's Quail Rise Kennel.

Ray Brooks was a great help with my Brittany, "Betsy". Betsy was a year old and had no training. After a few months in Ray's hands, she began developing into an enjoyable young lady. We just hunted opening day in North Dakota and Betsy performed very well. My hat is off to Ray and his skills.

I dropped by the kennel while I was hunting here in Kansas.
I bought "Carmel", a chocolate lab in February of 2008!
S
ince then I have hunted her in Wyoming, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Kansas.
Carmel is
an outstanding bird finder, tracker and dead bird retriever.
She is very obedient and
travels with us in the camper.
We love her and appreciate Ray's training.

Ray, I hunted Sunday. Sasha did real good and pointed a group of about 30 pheasants right out of the truck. It was amazing! Birds popping up all over. She had several other points during the day, and worked hard...Her obedience to "come" when called is super...No drop off in performance from the end of last year. In fact, I think she did better.

Ray Brooks has trained several pointers and setters for me. He has a remarkable talent for developing young bird dogs and finishing each dog to the owner's specifications. Two of the dogs Ray worked for me in his summer program have multiple field trial wins and one of them is on the Major Shooting Dog Circuit. Ray has taken me on several hunts as well. He does a great job guiding for pheasant and quail and his grounds are simply outstanding. He is very accommodating and knowledgeable about locating game ensuring that each hunt is successful. Quail Rise Kennel is a first class operation.

I have nothing but good things to say about knowing Ray Brooks. Sadie is exactly the dog I wanted. Between waterfowl and upland game, I needed a dog that was intelligent and built to handle the conditions Sadie has been around for about 4 years and I have never questioned the decision to work with Ray at Quail Rise Kennel to find the dog I needed. Ray also worked with me to provide a dog training seminar for our local Pheasants Forever chapter.

Ray is an incredibly versatile trainer. He first trained my British lab, who hunts both upland game and waterfowl. Most recently he trained my young Llewellin Setter. I could not be more pleased with the performance of my dogs. Ray has a patient and methodical way of training bird dogs. He has a long history of maximizing the abilities each dog he works with regardless of the breed and personality.

Ray has trained my brother-in-law's GSP and my hunting buddies' English Pointer. I would not trust anybody else with my dogs.

I would recommend Ray Brooks and Quail Rise Kennels to an upland bird dog owner who wants to bring out the best of their dog's natural instincts. I have a liver-colored German Shorthaired Pointer from Rawhides Clown lineage. He began training her from six months of age and all the best qualities of her breeding came true with his expertise and knowledge. At less than a year of age she acquired a second and third place win in the open derby field trials. He encouraged my involvement and input in her training and I learned as much or more than my dog. Even my wife is sold on Ray Brooks for what he has done for our family companion! I would offer myself as a reference and be glad to visit with anyone regarding Ray Brooks and Quail Rise Kennels.

Quail Rise Kennels is nothing less of a full service and quality kennel that focuses on training recreational and field trial hunting dogs. I sent my 1 1/2 year old Elhew English Pointer (Jack) to Quail Rise for three months. Jack had a great potential but after a few months he turned into a tremendous hunting dog with a deeper eager to hunt and please his owner. Ray uses basic hunting  techniques to train and focuses on consistency which in turn develops better responses from his dogs. I was so pleased with the outcome of Jack, I purchased two of Ray's well-trained Pointers. I would recommend Quail Rise Kennel to anyone and everyone who is interested in developing their bird dog to a fully trained hunting dog.

When I enlist a dog trainer, I always look for someone who is solid, easy-going and patient with me as a veteran hunter and novice trainer before they ever have a crack at training my dog. From the beginning of my relationship with Quail Rise Kennel, Ray Brooks has been both that for my dog as well as for me. His patient but firm approach to training has produced my dream pup for hunting quail and pheasants in Kansas. I noticed during my visit to his kennel that he was gifted in working with dogs from many breeds, so I sent two friends to Ray this past year for their training needs. Both have returned with rave reviews of Ray as a person and as a trainer. Training a dog is an investment in a 10 to 15 year relationship with a dog. It should be timely, quality and enduring. I am thankful to say that the dog I sent to Ray returned to me with these qualities and more instilled in her. You won't be disappointed either.
